关于 Ukrainian Hryvnia
The Hryvnia was introduced in 1996, five years after Ukraine gained independence from the Soviet Union. It replaced the Karbovanets, a transitional currency.
The name 'Hryvnia' comes from a weight unit used in medieval Kyivan Rus'. The Kopiika (kopeck) is derived from the Russian 'kopeyka'.
